Our first fight

Where do I start?

You dropped me,

like it was so easy and fine.

It hurt because you had things to do.

You say I am the light,

stars to your dark moon,

but you dropped me so easily,

as if it were nothing.

I am my own person.

The journey has been long and hard.

I created my own wonderland,

calming all the whispers of the dark,

creating love in the calmness

and a quiet in my thoughts.

I grew a skin that wrapped me tight,

my own warmth engulfing me close.

Long-time promises were made to myself,

born from the young and naïve:

I will not chase,

my heart will not ache in pain,

I will not long and yearn

when he is here.

If he makes these promises true,

He is not made of kind love.

In a tease, I tried

to make the hunted become the hunter.

The hunter did not like the chase,

for a reason I do not know.

Maybe in that moment,

he travelled to past feelings.

The hunter strikes back with a proud lesson,

but the lesson was met with coldness,

aloofness, and pride.

She felt its sting,

and it took her back

to a place of ice,

where winter's cruel breath

of a past man’s harshness lies.

For in love, there is no pride,

there is no ego,

there is no cold.

We want to change,

we want to be different,

we want a love that is true -

a love that does not tally wrongs and rights,

a love that does not matter

where the strife starts or ends,

a love that openly says, “I’m sorry,”

a love that is kind, gentle, and warm.

True love cannot exist in ego,

in titles,

or in past hurts

that the present has played no role in.

He picks up the phone,

and in the rants of so many words,

feelings, and hurts,

the warmth of his love seeps through.

My lion is here, stirred and awakened,

for in all that,

this is what she hears:

her king speaks.

You are mine and mine alone.

You stir the fires that burn for you;

I know I don’t tell you how I feel,

but I am showing you in this moment -

you are mine and mine alone.

Just like that, her anger melts,

her tears stop,

and her heart pounds for him.

She smiles a little, then giggles a lot;

her king has spoken,

and he likes her a lot.

That is all she needed:

to know she mattered to him,

not in stolen moments,

but in every moment.
